The File Name is the first thing you see of a file, together with the specific icon for the file. The name of a file can be freely chosen and changed by a user. However, there are some conventions that have to be followed when choosing a file name.
The names of a file have to be unique to files of the same type in the same folder and should, in the best case, describe what’s inside the file. File Names that are too long will not be completely displayed, so a name that is too long should be avoided. Furthermore, special character other than underscores (_) and hyphens (-) should be avoided. Some are even blocked from being used by your computer. The full stop should be avoided as well since it typically separates the File Name from the file extension.
